TMB Analysis Toolkit

The TMB Analysis Toolkit provides access to a set of analysis tools for a selection of TestMyBrain cognitive tests. This resource is  supported by the TestMyBrain digital platform, a collaboration between Many Brains (a 501c3 nonprofit) and the Laboratory for Brain and Cognitive Health Technology at McLean Hospital (part of Mass General Brigham and Harvard Medical School). The TMB CogSci Toolkit is provided to support our mission to increase access to high-quality cognitive testing tools to advance cognitive science, behavioral science, and brain health.

For each TMB test described below, you can download the following analysis tools, which are designed to enable researchers, students, and educators to perform custom analyses and build their own normative models:

1. TMB Test Documentation: describes basic test design and psychometric properties
2. TMB Data Dictionary: describes the variables within the data
3. TMB Dataset:  N=1,000 dataset of participants between 18 and 89 years old

Note: We will be updating the Analysis Tools over the coming months. At the moment, the Test Documentation may not describe the most recent version of the test.

Click the Download button below each TMB test description to download a zip folder containing these resources.

TMB Simple Reaction Time

In TMB Simple Reaction Time, the participant presses a key whenever a green square appears. This test measures basic psychomotor response speed.

TMB Multiracial Reading the Mind in the Eyes

This cognitive test battery contains TMB Multiracial Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test. In TMB MRMET, the participant judges which of four complex emotion words best describes a pair of eyes. This test measures mental state inferencing and theory of mind. This test is adapted from the classic Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test (Baron-Cohen et al., 2001) but with faces representing a variety of races and ethnicities.

TMB Verbal Paired Associates Memory

This cognitive testing battery contains TMB Verbal Paired Associates Memory. In this test, the participant memorizes a set of word pairs. Then, after completing TMB Digit Symbol Matching (90sec), the participant selects which words were paired together. TMB Verbal PA is a test of verbal episodic memory. In TMB Digit SM, the participant matches as many number/symbol pairs as possible in 90 seconds. This is a test of processing speed.

TMB Visual Paired Associates Memory

This cognitive testing battery contains TMB Visual Paired Associates Memory. In this test, the participant memorizes a set of picture pairs. Then, after completing TMB Digit Symbol Matching (90sec), the participant selects which pictures were paired together. TMB Visual PA is a test of visual episodic memory. In TMB Digit SM, the participant matches as many number/symbol pairs as possible in 90 seconds. This is a test of processing speed.

TMB Cambridge Face Memory Test

In TMB Cambridge Face Memory Test (computer-generated faces), the participant memorizes a set of six faces. Then, the participant identifies the faces learned in the memorization phase from images where lighting and face angle vary. This is a test of unfamiliar face recognition. Please note, TMB CFMT only provides trial-by-trial data (no test-level data).

TMB Vocabulary

In TMB Vocabulary, the participant picks which of five words is most similar in meaning to a target word. This is a test of verbal reasoning and general cognitive ability. This test was adapted from the General Social Survey Wordsum test.

TMB Multiracial Emotion Identification

In TMB Multiracial Emotion Identification, the participant picks which of four basic emotions (happy, fearful, sad, or angry) best describes a face. This is a test of emotion recognition.

TMB Gradual Onset Continuous Performance Test

In TMB Gradual Onset Continuous Performance Test, the participant presses a button for each city image and withholds button presses for mountain images. This is a Go/No Go test of cognitive control, sustained attention, and response inhibition.

TMB Digit Span - Forward

In the forward version of TMB Digit Span, the participant is shown a series of numbers in increasing length and asked to recall the numbers in the order displayed. This is a test of short-term memory. This test was adapted from the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scales.

Download

TMB Digit Span - Backward

In the backward version, the participant is shown a series of numbers in increasing length and asked to recall the numbers in reverse order. This is a test of short-term memory and working memory. This test was adapted from the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scales.

TMB Trail-Making - Part A

In TMB Trail-Making - Part A, a participant connects a series of circles with numbers in ascending order. This is a test of processing speed.

Download

TMB Trail-Making - Part B

In TMB Trail-Making - Part B, a participant connects a series of circles with numbers and letters in alternating numerical and alphabetical order. TMB Trails B is a test of processing speed and task-switching (or cognitive flexibility).
